Hello Family and Friends
I've survived a week at the MTC! Its crazy, the first few days feel like ages and like your never going to get out, but everyone tells you just make it to sunday and everything will start to fly by. It was so true. After sunday it seems like i've only been here an hour. There is so many things i want to tell you but i don't know where to start and i don't have a lot of time either.
Last Wednesday, I enter the MTC at 10 and literally sat in a classroom till all the other elders and sisters arrived. I sat there for 3 hours. After everyone arrived we all introduced ourselves. There is 8 elders and 4 sisters in our district. We seriously are the best district at the MTC right now. A few days ago, we ate lunch together and at one point all of us we laughing! During breakfast, lunch, and dinner we are the only group of Elders and Sisters in the whole entire cafeteria laughing. We love each other so much and it's amazing that only 7 days ago we were complete strangers but only had three things in common, being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saint, choosing to give up our time to serve other, and having a testimony of Christ and his atoning sacrifice he made for us. Also my companion is Elder Shields! He is awesome! He's from California and just got back from a year at BYU-Hawaii. He's hilarious! He's going to be serving in the San Antonio Texas Mission and with that in mind has decided he is going to take in a texan accent. The only thing bad about this is now almost everyone in our district is now speaking in a texas accent. He awesome and its going to stink to not be able to see him in the mission field. Also we are both a Zone leaders for four districts.
Thursday, Elder Shields and I had the opportunity to teach our first investigator, Veronika. I totally thought it would be a good idea to prepare a lesson and write down point we wanted to teach her. It totally failed. You have to TEACH BY THE SPIRIT. The lord will guide you and direct you, all he needs missionaries to do is to be the mouthpiece. We only taught her two times and both times stunk but i was able to learn that precious lesson. This week we have two new investigators, Dough and Bredon. They are awesome!! I love them so very much. The first lesson we taught was kinda shaky but Elder Shields and i both taught by the spirit and through the spirit. Its amazing how much better the lessons go when you trust the lord. We have taught both of them at least two times and each time it just gets better and better.
Also on last friday, i had the opportunity to go to the Salt Lake City Temple with all the new international missionaries. There were missionaries from China, Brazil, Vanuatu, Switzerland, Australia, the West Indies, and a few other countries. The inside of the temple is so beautiful. I loved the session and wish I could go there again. After going to the temple two temple square missionaries lead us all over temple square. It was awesome. I mostly spent most of my time with a missionary from Brazil. It was amazing to see the faith and humility he had. He loves his country and knows that the lord can bless them is they just seek. Decisions Determine Destiny! We have the power to change our lives and to make a difference in the world we just have to ACT!!
The MTC is so great!! It literally feels like a heaven on earth. You are continually feeling the spirit and being lead by it.
Outside of my district, in the district right next us there is an awesome sister missionary from SOUTH AFRICA!!!!!!!!!!!!! She lives right outside of Johannesburg and has taught me alot! She speaks Zulu and has taught me how to bear my testimony! Im so excited to go to South Africa!! So I will be flying out Monday from the Salt Lake City airport in the morning, flying to atlanta, then flying to Johannesburg, and THEN flying to Durban, to total almost 25 hours of flying time. In addition to that the paper telling me when im flying tells me how many other people are flying with me and drum roll please......................Im the only one flying to South Africa that day. Its going to be the longest day of my life, but its all going to be worth it! :)
I dont really have time to write a whole lot but i'm so excited to teach the people of south africa! Its going to be amazing!
Also Zulu is a clicking language so the word for please is spelled cela but you say the c with a "tsss" sound and then say ela. Zulu is the best!!
